On Saturday 23rd December Gornal Colts and Gornal Girls went to the Molineux. Over 200 discounted tickets were sold to our club members as we supported the "Gold and BlackCountry" team for the day. We were one of the largest Junior Club crowds at the game.
22/10/06 - New Under 10's Team joins Colts
This weekend we welcome our newest team to the Colts family as we expand the Under 10's age group. A warm welcome to Tony, Graham and the Under 10's South squad (players, parents & supporters) who will represent the club in the S&DYFL league division 4. With a few wins already under their belt this season we are sure the lads are looking forward to the matches ahead and most of all that they will continue to enjoy their football.
20/10/06 - Year 1 football update
Andrew Hartland and his coaching team currently offer training sessions each Saturday morning at 9.00am in the Lower Gornal Youth Centre, Abbey Street. This is an introduction to football for Year 1 boys and girls and has proved to be extremely successful with numbers increasing weekly as the news spreads within the local schools. The children are taught in a fun and structured way and are really enjoying their football. For more information contact us.
We also offer our new SoccaSkool initiative with sessions held each Saturday afternoon between 2.00 - 3.00pm. Owen Salmon and his coaching team will be looking to offer football to Year 1 boys and girls and we have already created a team for the new season.
14/10/06 - 3C coaching trial announced (Colts Managers & Coaches only)
Gornal Colts and Gornal Girls have started a trial on delivering best practice coaching sessions to all our coaching team. Initially delivered to the Girls Managers and Coaches we are now extending the opportunity for all Colts Coaches to join in with this initiative. For the next 10 weeks we all have the opportunity to join in for a one hour coaching session where we create an informal session plan to deliver to the rest of the team. So-far the course has proved to be great fun but also a way of refreshing our coaching techniques. Contact Tracey for further details and join in !
Brooking promotes new Code of Conduct - Updated 04/01/06
Trevor Brooking and the FA are currently working on a new Code of Conduct for Grass Roots football which will clamp down on "touchline bullies" and "win at all costs football". Extracts of the story says -
"Good behaviour and habits have to start at the early, grass roots level - Mums, Dads, Coaches and Managers, it all starts with the small sided game" - "Its no good if as soon as these youngsters try to pass the ball, they are bellowed at by Coaches or Parents because the pass might have gone wrong" - "They cannot be scared of losing the game at that age. We have got to make sure we embarrass these people on the sidelines into changing their behaviour." (The article is an extract from the Express and Star on 23/9/05)
All of us at Gornal Colts FC and Gornal Girls FC look forward to the new FA Code of Conduct.
